A flechette is a pointed steel projectile shaped like a dart.  It has a vaned tail for stable flight. The name comes from French fléchette, ‘little arrow’ or ‘dart’, and sometimes retains the acute accent in English. Standard pronunciation is fle-SHET.

When backed by a small piece of tissue wadding or a BB, these little steel darts can be fired through a .177 pellet gun. 

Some people pack them into 12ga shotgun shells using baking powder for filler.  While this load lack the short range stopping power of buckshot, its long range performance make this one of the better all purpose shotgun loadings.

They are awesome little rounds and their use is only limited by your imagination..
